The circular school of the future

The project "Circular School for the Future" is a collaboration between Groep Van Roey, VITO, VUB, WTCB, and the University of Antwerp. In 2020, a concurrent doctoral research project was also initiated at the University of Antwerp, focusing on the theme of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) in circular schools. This doctoral research will add a profound scientific perspective to the practical aspects of future projects.

A noteworthy aspect of this research is the initial comprehensive stakeholder analysis. This involves, among other things, a meticulous examination of the pedagogical vision of schools and the requirements regarding the adaptability of future schools. Mapping out the schools' visions and understanding their needs are essential building blocks for creating school environments that meet the expectations of the education sector.

For instance, as a practical implementation of these insights, all interior walls are non-load-bearing, providing additional flexibility for future adjustments. Additionally, the facades have been designed structurally soundly with calcium silicate masonry, featuring a ring beam, allowing for straightforward modifications to window openings. Furthermore, classrooms are paired in twos, facilitating co-teaching, which is in alignment with adaptations in the pedagogical vision.
